By using oil, you no longer need to go to the effort of rubbing butter into flour, simply mix all your ingredients together to make a tasty, sturdy and versatile pastry. For a sweet pastry, just add 1 tablespoon of sugar. You can also substitute the wholemeal flour for plain flour if you would like.
120g plain flour
120g wholemeal flour
½ tsp salt
80ml Mellow Yellow Rapeseed Oil
To a large mixing bowl, add your plain flour, wholemeal flour and salt. Mix together. Pour in your Mellow Yellow Rapeseed Oil and stir to combine. Use your hands to rub into a breadcrumb-like texture. Pour in half of your water and use your hands to form a ball of dough, adding more water as necessary until the dough comes together. Wrap in cling film and chill in the fridge for at least half an hour. Roll out your dough on a floured surface. Place your pastry in a pastry case, pushing it gently into the edges. Trim off the excess. Prick the base with a fork to create air holes. Bake for 10-15 minutes at 190°C. Use your pastry to create delicious quiches, pies or tarts.
