About us

Duncan Farrington was born and bought up on Bottom Farm in the Northamptonshire village of Hargrave. He is the fourth generation of the Farrington family to farm, and works Bottom Farm in partnership with his father, Robert.

After university, Duncan joined the family business, and Bottom Farm made a perfect place for him and his wife Eli to bring up their children. The financial pressures that a growing family can bring made Duncan realise that the farm had to diversify in order to support them all. Whilst studying at university and observing how Europe was enthusiastically embracing rapeseed oil, Duncan had started to develop a healthy interest in the potential benefits the crop might bring to Bottom Farm. This dedicated research ensured that Duncan’s interest developed into a passion: he truly understood the wonderful culinary properties and nutritional benefits that could be obtained from cold pressed rapeseed oil.

Therefore, Duncan formed Farrington Oils Ltd, and in 2005 launched Farrington’s MELLOW YELLOW® - a cold pressed rapeseed oil. So determined that the business would be successful, Duncan initially drove round the region’s local shops demonstrating his enthusiasm and commitment to his all-natural product, and persuading them to stock the oil. And now, MELLOW YELLOW® is stocked in hundreds of retail outlets throughout Britain and Ireland.

Now, Farrington Oils is a successful thriving business, employing family members, including Duncan’s mother - Angela - who helps bottle the oil, and other full and part-time people from the local area. Duncan says, “I am really proud that MELLOW YELLOW® is a success for Bottom Farm and our area. I don’t get to drive a tractor as much as I did, but that’s a small price to pay.”

MELLOW YELLOW® is Britain’s first entirely farm-produced rapeseed oil. At Bottom farm it is grown; harvested; cold-pressed; and bottled.

We take pride in nurturing healthy crops, which are grown to LEAF Marque standards. LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) supports viable agriculture, which is environmentally and socially acceptable and ensures the continuity of supply of wholesome, affordable food while conserving and enhancing the fabric and wildlife of the British countryside for future generations.

Bottom Farm is one of a network of LEAF demonstration farms around the country that voluntarily open their gates to groups of visitors. This gives an insight into how the principles behind LEAF work in practice on an economically active farm. Visit www.leafmarque.com for more details.
